Summer School 2019 : High and ultra-high temperature ceramics

1. Context

On connection with the 16th conference of the European Ceramic Society (in Turin, from 14 to 15 June 2019) the ECERS organizes a Summer School for young ceramics the previous week.
The theme of the school is: The high temperature ceramics: ultra-refractories, thermo-structural composites and refractories – reactivity and corrosion.
We plan to host 40 students and 20-40 professionals from research centres and industry from all over the world and invite about 10 professors, internationally recognized in this field.
The duration of the courses will be 1 hour and half. The evening of 14th June will be devoted to exchanges between students, industrial professionals and professors. During this evening, a poster session will be organized. Each student will have to present his research activities.
In collaboration with the Politechnico di Torino, this school will be held at the Lingotto Building (Turin).
The courses will deal with very broad topics : design and properties of ceramics for high and ultra-high temperatures, fundamental aspects (thermodynamic, kinetics, wetting and infiltration, mechanisms of corrosion), Testing and advanced characterization methods, Applications (aerospace, nuclear, steel making, metallurgy, glass, energy, incineration, …)

2. Benefits of this summer School

The organization of an international summer school just before the Turin conference would favor the attendance to ECERS19 of students, industrial professionals (ceramics, metallurgy, aero-space, nuclear, cement, incineration, refractory manufacturers,…) and professors coming from Europe but also USA and Canada and other countries ( Asia) outside Europe. It will create links between different scientific communities and between industrial and academic research. This Summer School  » High and ultra-high temperature ceramics: reactivity and corrosion  » aims to promote cooperation on educational programs in refractories and ultra refractories amongst major institutions and companies of the sector. This school will favor networking between young scientists and experimented professors. The participation of American and Asia professors is desired as well as the presence of international students to promote scientific exchanges between these different continents
